COMMAND AUTHORITY, A Tom Clancy novel staring Jack Ryan senior and junior is written by Mark Greaney. The novel is the 14th of the Jack Ryan series. The story depicts almost accurately what is currently taking place in Putin’s Russia as he marches toward returning to the old aggressive Soviet ways and the glory days of his KGB involvement. The narrative has flourishes of excitement but generally it is disjointed and confusing, jumping from one scene (generation) to another without introductory sequencing. Jack Ryan Jr. is assigned to London as a financial analyst but is also a key asset to the Campus ops team when needed. The project he is assigned involves Russian criminal elements that go back 30 years to his father’s days in the CIA. This is my tenth Jack Ryan read and I must say it does not meet the high standards of previous Clancy/Greaney novels. I therefore can only give this novel a 3 ½-star rating. Typical of Clancy's Jack Ryan novels, Mark Greaney's almost 750 pages is involved and at times hard to follow. I guess that is why I say the book, at least for me, probably needs two readings. A lot goes on in the book including many chapters that go back 30+ years to when Jack Ryan Sr. was a CIA analyst and member of the Campus.
